Dear students and friends
It is with deep sadness that I write to let you know that Estrid, the figurehead of Echo from it’s beginnings in 1988 until her retirement last year, has died after a long and brave fight against pancreatic cancer. She died painlessly and peacefully on Saturday evening, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was an example to us all, making the very best of the good moments and treasuring them, and suffering the bad with determination and without complaint. She was an important part in the lives of many, and in particular in those of us, her children and family.
Some already know, and we thank you for all the messages of condolence we have received. She was a fine lady, and will live in our hearts, in the influence she has had on us, and through her life’s work, Echo.
Alex
Here is a selection of the feedback we have received on the courses this summer, clearly reflecting satisfaction from all the ages and nationalities we cater to, from 12 to 20, from Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Spain, Switzerland…
I think it also reflects the family feel we try to promote, and the sense that all our students and teachers feel very much at home at ECHO, an important factor in everyone doing their best , whether it be teaching or learning. Thus we aim to remain true to our moto «Learning and Living Under One Roof» and our mission of providing the best complete English immersion courses for teenagers available.
So here’s a big thank you to all our students and teachers, staff, host families and parents for making this happen!

“Thank you for your E-Mail and report on Céline’s course at Echo!
Reading the report I find issues we certainly know and which Céline should and will work on. At the same time I am glad on the progress she made and the overall evaluation you and your teachers gave her. This is a very nice result and she will be encouraged to carry on. As Céline returned she was very positive on her experiences, the school, the work and the progress she made. At this time my wife and I would like to thank you for the opportunity you offered Céline, for your efforts, intensive and motivating program and the overall very good care you gave her and all your students.
Thanks again and good luck for the future”

So today, the darkest day of the month, the water snake has gone and the horse has arrived at full gallop! Here are a couple of links to practice your English:
This first link (click here), after a brief intro to the year of the horse, leads you to some creative activities to do at home: Chinese writing, paper-cutting, dragon and lantern making and different fortune cookie recipes. (más…)
Here’s your chance!
We will be posting different tasks – LISTENING, READING, AND WRITING – with focuses on GRAMMAR, LEXIS AND DISCOURSE, which you can do online.
Your answers will be sent to ECHO, and we will publish feedback.
Here is the first task. It develops your listening and reading skills, helps you practice understanding vocabulary from context, and is a good example of how to express your opinions with clarity and passion! We will give feedback at the end of next week.
Good luck!
Have a look at this video. Try to do the activities that go with it. Were there any other important events / stories that should have been included?
